Bioengineer Bent Svensson is forced to abandon his search for alternative energy sources. Now a former workaholic, he lives a secluded life in the remote forests of Norway. His peaceful existence in early retirement is disrupted by Faye, a woman who claims to have been sent here from the future. She tries to convince Bent that she has come to prevent a climate catastrophe, and, according to her, Bents research is the last hope for salvation. However, the results of his research almost fall into the hands of an irresponsible energy magnate interested only in profit.
