Shantae: Riskys Revenge is a critically acclaimed Metroidvania-style platform video game developed and published by WayForward. Initially released on October 4, 2010 for the Nintendo DSi (via DSiWare), it serves as the second installment in the Shantae series, following the original 2002 Game Boy Color title. Core Gameplay & Story
Players take control of Shantae, a half-genie guardian of Scuttle Town. When her nemesis, the nefarious lady pirate Risky Boots, steals a mysterious magic lamp, Shantae must venture out across Sequin Land to recover three hidden magic seals. Combat: Shantae primarily attacks by whipping enemies with her hair. She can also purchase and upgrade offensive magic spells like fireballs and shields. Belly Dance Transformations: By dancing, Shantae transforms into different animals to access hidden areas. These include a Monkey for wall-dashing, an Elephant to smash obstacles, and a Mermaid for swimming underwater. Exploration: The map features an interconnected 2D landscape filled with towns, labyrinths, and hidden upgrades like Heart Holders and rare Magic Jam used for shop purchases. A unique feature includes jump pads that launch Shantae between foreground and background layers.
