About this offer
Sony has never quite had a platforming mascot to rival Mario. The likes of Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter have given it a swing, but none of them ever quite made it. Finally, with Astro Bot, Sony might have the imaginative, loveable platformer its been reaching for. This isnt quite the first outing for Astro Bot – there was Astros Playroom in 2020 and Astro Bot Rescue Mission in 2018. But Astro Bot ups the game in every way, taking the series to the next level. This 3D platformer serves up dozens of creative stages across six galaxies and 50 planets, and theyre all packed with novel abilities and whimsical solutions to outrageous challenges. You might benefit from springy frog gloves that max out your reach, or the ability to change into a giant sponge that can absorb liquid to solve water puzzles. Uncovering each of these, and the strange ways they help you solve challenges, is a big part of Astro Bots appeal. The levels are also packed with nods to PlayStations past, like an Uncharted level featuring a robot Nathan Drake or the ability to use Kratoss Leviathan Axe in a God of War-themed level. This is a game aimed squarely at all ages – generous checkpoints, straightforward combat and a lack of penalties for dying will mean that younger players are comfortable, while optional tougher levels will satisfy more seasoned gamers. Astro Bot is also a great showcase for what the DualSense controller can do, with haptic feedback that lets you feel the sand beneath your feet and the rain pattering on your helmet.
